Each year artists from all over the world gather in Jukkasjärvi, a small village in Sweden, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, to create the Icehotel. The design concept ‘Inner Space' by Jens Paulus and Joshua Space had been selected and the two designers had the opportunity to create their suite solely by using ice and snow. In an environment where the temperature could easily drop down beyond -30º C, the sun only appears for few hours during the day, and where colourful northern lights appear during the long nights.

Space and space travel are inspiration for the Inner Space Suite. The concept seeks to let the visitor exist among basic, familiar forms yet still feel separate and distant at the same time. Ice and snow are perfect materials for visualizing themes like outer space, planets and the space station itself. This environment may seem cold and lifeless on the surface, but the unsuspecting traveler may sense that a presence of life is brimming in crystalline forms.
